I’m
John MacGibbon and this blog is my own fault. It started as a temporary demonstration site for a couple of other people who were interested in starting their own blogs. It hasn’t died yet, so I’d better say a few words about myself. I live in New Zealand, partly in our capital city, Wellington, and partly in Martinborough, a small village 80 kilometres away in wine growing and sheep country. I have a grown-up family and live with my wife Liz and a Burmese cat called Java. I’m a words and pictures man who has authored historical books and worked as a journalist and editor. In more recent years I’ve also been a book publisher with my own micro imprint, Ngaio Press.
I’m keen on photography and have taken many photos for publication over the years. Music is definitely my thing. I play the piano, and although now retired from commercial playing, I was once active in jazz and rock groups. I’ve long been interested in computers, since buying an Apple II+ in 1982. My latest toys are a tiny Asus Linux Eee PC900 laptop computer and a Nokia E71 smartphone. My commercial work gets done on big boring Windows machines, using Windows 7, Photoshop, InDesign, MS Office etc.
